On January 25, 2012, a film crew consisting of a producer, reporter and cameraman from PBS (PBS News Hour) spent the morning at Walton Special Center to film UOP Music Therapy students working with our students. They filmed a group of a six medically fragile students in two classrooms. PBS is doing a report on the utilization of Music Therapy in Congressman Gabby Gifford’s miraculous recovery. Pacific has one of the only university level Music Therapy programs on the west coast. Dr. Feilin Hsiao is the Music Therapy Professor who has been working collaboratively with Walton, and many of our other schools, offering music therapy opportunities for our students as well as practicum and internship opportunities for their students for the past 4 years. We have seen great benefit from their work with our students and are happy to see this program highlighted in such a prestigious manner.

Walton Special Center Renovation and
Dedication of the Jean Wilson Early Childhood Center
October 12, 2011

On Wednesday, October 12th Walton Special Center celebrated its Measure “Q” Completion and the Dedication of the new Jean Wilson Early Childhood Center.   Superintendent Carl Toliver greeted the over 250 students, family members and friends in attendance.   There were several dignitaries in attendance, many who were part of the original group of concerned citizens that create Walton in the 1971.    The evening was capped off with a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Early Childhood Center.   Jean Wilson who helped create the Early Intervention Program in 1969 was honored by the dedication.  Donnie Stewart, a Walton Early Intervention Center alumni, along with numerous other Walton past and present students helped Board Member Steve Smith cut the ribbon, concluding an evening celebration at Walton Special Center.
